Using 12-RELEASE:

I've tried but getting nowhere. Tried different loader drivers for console, ... commands...
Im fairly sure with vt it isn't arcane magic.

What is the right way to specify 1920 x 1200 VGA monitor size on boot?
Bonus question, why isn't it autodetecting the monitor size, either?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I would like to know why you need to set monitor size in FreeNAS

Could you accomplish what you want by enabling SSH and using a terminal client like PuTTY? You would certainly have more flexibility than using the Shell command.

I'm already doing that - PuTTY runs in both SSH and serial console modes.. But sometimes the vga console and direct wired keyboard is more convenient, or indeed needed (if the workstation is off or being modified or not running it's full OS, or just the way stuff is).

Mainly it would help and suit me., and should be easy to do, so I'd like to.
