Hi,

I had a fully functional FreeNAS 8.2 system up and running.

Specs:
FreeNAS 8.2 64 bit
HP Proliant N40L micro server
1 * 2 TB HDD
1* 4 GB Transcend flash drive to run OS

I have a whole bunch of CIFS shares with various security/access configurations (what and how is not too important)

Last week (2012-10-04) we had a power failure in our office and since then I have had the following issues;

1) I was no longer able to access the server using its PC name/NETBois name/IP addr alias. We are working within a workgroup so no domain server. I have sorted this out to some extent by adding a line in the windows hosts file on all our PCs. However, it worked before without this and now it doesn't? Can someone explain what could be wrong? I have tried to change the name no luck.

2)Also, I can't access the console using PuTTy or even get to the volumes using WinSCP FTP. The user names and passwords are still the same. I need help with this issue quite soon, as I can't figure out what is wrong? And I need to make some changes.

The next day I just powered the server back up and since then the problems. I even swapped out the flash drive with an identical backup and still no luck - I though the FreeNAS configuration might have corrupted.

I am very new to FreeNAS so when ever I have time I setup another feature. Right now I am trying to setup a backup using RSYNC and I can't get in to use the console to create folders and assign access rights.

Please can someone assist?

Thank you.

Try Rebooting your Router or Firewall, do you have a managed switched it the mix? What is your DHCP server? Do you have for example a Wireless router in the office that could be sending out DHCP? also try flushing dns on the computers.

HI,

Thanks for the info.

We have a ADSL wireless access point router which is also our firewall and DHCP server. No managed switches in the mix.

How do I go about flushing the DNS on the PCs?

Regards.
