Connecting to multiple volumes in one machine

First off, I have very little experience with FreeNAS, and have been learning as I go. I have recently set up a second volume in my NAS build. The first is for general storage, the second was set up for Time Machine backups with my mac. The setup for the second volume went smoothly, and I was able to successfully backup to the second volume on two separate occasions that were a few days apart. Before adding the second volume I was able to successfully read and write from the first volume. After setting the second volume up, I wasn't able to see the first volume on my mac until about 3 days later. Now I was able to connect to the first volume, but it isn't allowing me to access the second volume. Is there something I need to change, like a different address to connect to to view both volumes at the same time?

What protocol are you using? Afp, NFS or smb?

I apologize in advance, I'm doing this from work right now, so I don't have the version of FreeNAS that I'm running but will update it when I get it.

My hardware is:
BioStar mini ITX motherboard
2x 4GB crucial ddr3 ram
Rosewill 350W power supply
2x Toshiba 2TB 7200 rpm hard drives
500GB WD blue (unsure of the exact drive at the moment)
Running FreeNAS off a 8gb usb flash drive
All in a thermaltake mini ITX case

I believe the two 2TB hard drives are set up as smb as I am able to read and write to them from my windows and Mac machines. The single 500(?)GB hard drive is set up as afp and is used for my time mahine backups

What I really need to know is if I need to change any settings to be able to connect to both at once. As of right now, I'm only able to view one at a time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong at connecting from my Mac

It sounds to me that you wanted to expand your current pool by adding a vDev and instead you created a second pool. You want one major point to connect to and access everything and you have to switch back and forth. Correct? I do not use a MAC so I have no clue how the AFP works in relation to CIFS so this is a half guess.

Well the bad news is if that is the case then you will have to destroy one of the pools and then add it to the other as a second vDev. The problem is that you have a single drive pool and a two drive pool so you will need another 500GB HDD to do this correctly. Easiest thing to do right now is just transfer the data off of the 500GB drive and then remove it from the system unless you want to use it for jail storage or something like that.

Hopefully you are aware that if you have a cpu that does not support ECC and ECC ram you are potentially putting your data at risk.

Thank you for all of the replies, they've helped me solve my problem. For the time being, I'm just going to stick with the 2 2TB drives, and attempt a second vDev in the future when I have the necessary drives. Also, thanks for the concern about ECC ram. I'm not planning on storing any sensitive data at the moment, and am going to keep multiple backups of my data in the event of a data loss.
