I have a night to myself so was going to waste it by trying to setup a NextCloud jail :D

I was thinking the easiest way to do this was to follow @Joshua Parker Ruehlig's guide, but replace the OwnCloud bits with NextCloud.

I then thought, rather than having to copy all the files and recreate the database I could take a clone of my owncloud snapshots (ocfiles and ocdb datasets) and point the configuration at the clones (ncfiles and ncdb)

I've created the clones without any issues, but noticed the file sizes were very small so am assuming these aren't really 'copies' but just reference the original file locations. Having looked at the manual, this kind of makes sense, but begs the question if the files change in the cloned dataset (nc*), are the originals preserved in the old dataset (oc*)?

Hopefully this makes sense?

Since you used "beg the question" incorrectly, I will not assist you!

(actually, I don't know the answer really. If this were me, I'd just install fresh and not try to preserve anything from OwnCloud. I'd be interested to know how Nextcloud works for you)

Sorry, I missed an 's" :D

After some further reading last night I came to the conclusion cloning the 0C files and database wasn't the best idea, so deleted the clones and created copies instead. Will try nC today and report back...

Other than having to fiddle with some permissions, this approach works fine, or at least to get NextCloud up and running using the established guide for ownCloud.

I didn't have much time, so didn't try and set-up with SSL or Fail2Ban so will just be playing with it for a little to see how they both progress.
