hi all,

first of all, an apology, I could not find the relevant information using search.

Problem: I am unable to access the CIFS shares using a Windows 7 machines, and unfortunately, both the laptops at home are Windows 7 OEM. The problem is only CIFS/Windows 7, I tried to access the data using FTP and it works just fine! Any ideas?

My setup: Running FreeNAS 8 (FreeNAS-8.0.2-RELEASE-amd64 (8288)) over VMWare, data store is on an external USB HDD. The disk itself is from a previous freeNAS installation, and IIRC is UFS (not ZFS). I have done all that I understood to be essential:

- imported the volume
- changed the volume permissions and groups (taken ownership of all data on the disk)
- configured CIFS service
- created the CIFS share
- started the CIFS service
- both machines are part of the same workgroup
- guest access is allowed

However, I am still unable to access the service from my Windows 7 machine, no matter what username/password combination is being used. I am currently using the IP address format, i.e. \\192.168.2.3\datastore. I read a few hints that there might be problems with windows authentication.

Could somebody please point me in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance for any help!
