Hi,

I have a Supermicro X10sl7-f motherboard and trying to buy an appropriate chassis for it. I have narrowed down to Rosewill chassis which give me these configurations:

Rosewill RSV-L4500 (15 bays): 2x(4+2) with 3 spares in RAID Z2
Rosewill RSV-L4500 (15 bays): 2x(6+1) with 1 spare in RAID Z1

Rosewill RSV-L4412 (12 bays): 2x(4+2) with no spare in RAID Z2
Rosewill RSV-L4412 (12 bays): 2x(4+1) with 2 spares in RAID Z1

Which configuration is optimal from the above or should it be something else?

Thanks

Don't use active spare drives unless the system is not physical accessible.

Option 3 is probably best.

Just curious, but is a 4U case really needed? That seems like a whole lot of real estate for only 12 - 15 drives... Aside from that I'd have to agree with going with the 2x(4+2) with no spare in RAID Z2.
