I just created a NAS. Everything went smoothly and the server appears to be functioning correctly. I can access the server and can see and map to the drive on a Windows Vista laptop. I cannot see the drive on my Windows XP desktop but can access it using the IP address in IE. I have turned off the Anti Virus software still with no luck.

Any suggestions on what I need to do so that I can see the drive?

start, run..., \\ip.of.nas.here

Thanks. That worked. Is this a problem with XP? After I did the start, run, it appeared under the folder "Workgroup" in Windows Network which I never saw before. Do I need to do something with the groups to resolve this?

Sounds like you need to set the workgroup name in CIFS to match what you use in your local network. My recollection is XP only browses network locations in the local workgroup by default.

For some reason I've always had two references to the networked FreeNAS box in explorer on XP Pro 32 SP3. The first is:
My Network Places > FreeNAS server
which has never worked, and....
My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > WorkGroup > FreeNAS Server (FreeNAS) which has always worked.
Why the two references I have no idea.
