I was running Ver 8.0 AMD w/ UFS files. Machine crashed (not HDD, it's intact). Running 8.0 won't recognize HDD. Upgraded OS to 8.3.1 and still won't accept it. 8.3 sees the disk but can't Auto Import.
Was there an encryption key even with UFS on old system? If so, is there a way to retrieve it. Is there a way to retrieve my files?

Encryption was only available with 8.3.1 and only with ZFS.

If you used an encrypted zpool and lost your key you have about 0% chance of recovering the key in your lifetime.

That's what's confusing. I don't remember using any encryption. It was a plain vanilla install.

Hi Justbob,

For grins can you download the 8.0 disk & put it on another USB key & see if you can access your disks?

What board are you using? Is it something old that might have had support for the disk controller removed from the current version of FreeNAS?

Console\ssh in and run dmesg (or dmesg -a for the full boot message log) and see if you see a disk controller listed.

Yes I already tried Ver 8.0; no go. The "new" machine is an old Dell Optiplex 755 which is newer than the original. Dmesg reveals:

atapci0: <Intel ATA controller> port 0xfe80-0xfe80, (et al) irq 18 at device 3.2 on pci0.
atapci0: [ITHREAD]
ata2: <ATA channel> at channel 0 on atapci0
ata2: [ITHREAD]
ata3: <ATA channel> at channel 1 on atapci0
ata3: [ITHREAD]
