I have 2x1tb hard drives in a UFS mirror and one of them recently dropped out of the array, it no longer reports any read/write activity and it has been throwing up smart errors for a while now so it's not really surprising.

I just ordered a replacement drive but I'm stuck now because when I go to storage and click the volume then volume status it's just a blank page, it used to show information here before the drive failed. If I can't replace the drive from this menu what am I supposed to do? I tried googling it and I can't find anybody else with this exact problem.

My specs are:
Freenas 9.1.2.6
AMD A4-4000 cpu
8gb ram
MSI A78m-E35 FM2+ motherboard

Here are some pictures of what i'm describing.

I don't have my UFS box handy at the moment.. A drive died from your mirrored setup correct? You are sure you are using UFS? Perhaps clear your cache to ensure nothing is messed up gui wise.. As UFS repalcement is basically non-existent and probably wont show up in the guide anymore I can understand why you are posting.. Can you follow the ZFS repalcement guide at all?

I would probably look to "detach" the failed disk from within GUI and then powerdown and hook new 1 up.. You may have to wait for some1 with more experience.. I'm not sure if UFS drives when replaced will simply "rebuild as I've never gone through the experience with my UFS box yet.. I've been looking though for this answer for awhile..

I have tried using different browsers and different machines to make sure that it's not just some browser glitch. I looked in the ZFS replacement guides and I can't follow any of them just because they all tell me to use the volume status page which is blank for me.

I looked in the thread you linked and somebody says you can replace a disk using the command line. http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/geom-mirror.html , http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=gmirror

I guess I will try that once my new disk gets here in 2 days. Thanks for the help.

That looks right. Once the replacement mirror arrives, is installed, and the system reboots, it should automatically start to rebuild the mirror. You can check this with gmirror status which should show both drives with one ACTIVE and one SYNCHRONIZING with a %. If the rebuild doesn't start automatically, follow the instructions in the Guide to replace the drive.

captain3xtreme, you are aware that UFS support is removed from all future FreeNAS builds, correct?

No I didn't know that but I started using UFS because I was getting transfer lockups with ZFS presumably because I didn't have enough RAM. I also don't have ECC RAM which I read you need for ZFS.

Ah. Well, UFS is already dead. The UFS code is pulled. So you may want to start looking at your long-term plans and seeing what to do. Unfortunately you're about to be left behind and without a doubt you will eventually be on a version of FreeNAS that has known exploitable bugs in it. :/
