Hi Guys,
I can't seem to get FreeNAS to load up. When I turn it on it gets to the point in the picture and then repeats the same "terminated ioc 804b scsi" error message over and over again.

5048R-E1CR36L 36 bay server

I googled around a bit and people were suggesting running some commands, but I can't even get FreeNAS to finish the boot process to run anything. I appreciate any thoughts.

Are you using the SAS 3008? Are the expanders SAS 3 or SAS 2?

Last I heard the mpr driver (the driver that is having the problems) was quoted as "pre-alpha" from the FreeNAS devs. So I can't say I'm "too surprised". Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations for you at all.

There have been issues combining mpr controllers with SAS2 expanders. Can you try disconnecting the expanders to see if that works around the problem?

If so, consider an SAS2 controller as a stopgap solution.

If not, it'll be a pain to track down the issue. Good be a faulty controller, even.

Thanks for the tips. I dropped a 9207-8i in it and it worked. I have quite a few of this same set up, and a slightly different one that uses the 9207-8i, both have been running fine for about 4 months. I guess I'm leaning towards bad controller. Good to know about the SAS 3008. I jumped in to a gigantic storage project and didn't spend enough time reading beforehand. I wish I could get a do-over on the hardware selections after haunting the forums for a few months now.

I super appreciate all of you guys and the time you take out of your days to answer noob questions.

I'm sure the 3008 will be a great controller in a few months, but right now, the firmware and drivers aren't 100% stable (or at least the "acceptable" failure modes haven't been identified yet).
