I am running latest version of TrueNas Scale

I am attempting to use Rocky-9.1-x86_64-dvd.iso to install Rocky 9

When I use the Legacy BIOS Boot I get:

When I use UEFI BIOS Boot I get:

Then when I start the install I get

I have the ISO mounted as:

I have been going in circles, any ideas as to what I am missing?

thanks!

Not sure - but I had real problems setting up a VM, depending on where I put the ISO. Try putting the ISO in different places

Thanks @NugentS - I created a dataset for ISOs, do you mean create a different dataset?

If both datasets are created the same would not the same problem happen?

I just remember that if I used on dataset it didn't work, but another location it did. The why's and wherefore's I didn't go into. It was probably permissions

Gotcha

A buddy has the same setup but a couple of versions back and works fine in dataset

I will open permissions wide open if not work I'll move to a non dataset directory and let you know

Opened the dataset to the world and same thing happened as initially described

copied ISO to /home/admin with no Joy

This makes absolutely no sense

What was the path that you stored the ISO in @NugentS ?

It was so long ago - but menory says it was just a dataset with an open ACL

I tried a 777 ACL WORLD ACL and that did not work.

I looked at my friend's config and he was POSIX ACL not Inherited on the ISO dataset world readable

I will give that a try and see if that helps and let you know

Thanks for getting back to me

Okay now.....

The issue was NOT with TrueScale but with Rocky 9 ISO o_O

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is installing just fine with NO ACLs configured except what was default in TrueNas Scale for the dataset

If anyone can figure out what is needed to install ROCKY 9 I would like to know especially since it installed fine on my friend's TrueNas Scale AngelFish

Not at all my friend, I'm new to Truenas so it was a valuable learning experience and I really appreciate your time helping me flush this out

Have a great day!

So I have a bit of a twist to saga....

I had a similar issue with an earlier version of TrueNas Scal

I changed the CPU Model to SandyBridge and it installed

Does anyone have any insights as to what CPU models are the most universally functional to use for a VM?

I will try to install Rocky 9.1 on my TrueNAS box, one second.

Edit: Can't start that VM, gives me a 404 when displaying...

Thanks for trying

I'm very confused as to why Rocky fails whereas Ubuntu installation is straightforward
