Hello, I am brand new here and just recently built a server running FreeNas 8 out of an old PC. I'm pretty positive I've set everything up correctly but when I go to access my server through the network tab in the start menu to upload/download files it asks for a Network Security password. I've tried the password that I set up with the server but it keeps rejecting it. Is this the way I'm suppose to access my server from computers connected to my Network or is there another way? Please let me know if you have any advice and please go easy on me because this is the first time I've ever down anything with servers.

Thanks so much, Jack

If you are using the admin password that you use to login to the webgui, then no it won't work.

I've tried the password that I set up with the server but it keeps rejecting it.

Please re-read the manual. Look at section 3.1.7 and the linked sections from there.

Based on the limited information in your message, we have no idea if you configured it or not. Nor, what service/protocol you're trying to use.

I just read through that section and looked very carefully at 7.3.3 but even after making the appropriate changes it still will not connect. In 7.3.3 it says " Username and Password: matches the username and password on the client system". Is it asking for the username and password that I use to log into my computer when I turn it on? What else do you need to know? Like I said I'm new to all this so I don't know what other info to provide you guys.

Perhaps this thread (from yesterday) might help: sharing-not-working

I just read through that section and looked very carefully at 7.3.3 but even after making the appropriate changes it still will not connect. But, you still haven't answered the question as to what service/protocol, you're trying to use. AFP, CIFS, FTP, ...

I am using CIFS to connect a windows 7 computer (64bit home premium). I attached a screenshot of the message.

I suspect it has something to do with your share name or user having an apostrophe in it.

How would I go about fixing it? I have a flash drive attached to my router also as extra storage and it has the same pop-up when I try to open the folder. Would restoring my computer to a week ago fix anything??
