Hello people,

I have an elderly 2.5" hdd in my FreeNAS box which currenly contains my jails. I wish to replace this drive with another when I perform some upgrades later this year, but I need to be able to reactiveate / retain the jails once the upgrade is complete.
How would I go about this?

Thanks

What's your definition of upgrade? Hardware only or also software?

If you're also considering software, read the Migrating Jails chapter of the FreeNAS 9.1.1 Guide first. Note that you will want to backup your app configs first as you'll need to reinstall the apps as 8.x is incompatible with 9.x app versions.

Ah, sorry. More information required.

I am running FreeNAS 9.1.1 already. It is just the disks which I need to upgrade as the one with myjails on it is starting to show errors.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

I'm guessing the disks you are upgrading to are of different sizes?
You most likely would have to backup your data first and then replicate on the new disks.
Look into zfs snapshot, zfs send, and zfs receive commands.
