Can I reorganize/reassign drives in a pool?

FreeNAS is using the storage drives in my signature as ada1 to ada4.

I ordered them backwards/upside-down in my hotswap bay, with ada1 at the bottom and ada4 at the top. It would be better if I had ada1 at the top and ada4 at the bottom, but - can I just re-order drives like this?

It seems like I can't but it also looks like ZFS uses some sort of GUID-like numbering where the drive is assigned a unique identifier, so I'm not sure. If it is a GUID, it shouldn't matter what port each drive is connected to, if you move it around the OS will still know which drive is which on the next boot.

Connect them in any order you want. FreeNAS uses a gptid to identify them.

If you haven't already done so, consider labeling the visible side of your hard disks with their serial numbers. Should you need to replace a hard disk in the future, it'll be easier to identify the correct one.

That's great! Thanks.

Haven't identified the disks by serial number yet, but I've seen it in other threads and it's a great idea.

Thanks again.
