Can I connect BOTH SFF-8643 ports on the MB to the backplane for increased throughput?

I'm planning on getting a a MB with the 8 SAS3 (12Gbps) via LSI 3008. On the MB is 2x SFF-8643 and the same on the backplane of the SC826BE1C-R920LPB

Can you connect both cables for increased throughput, and does this make sense?

Increased throughput for what specifically?

Spinning rust, probably not worth it practically speaking, but I'm just interested in how this works at a theoretical level - is it like bonding ethernet, for example.

Theoretically possible with expanders, somewhat dubious operation in practice.

Well the reason I ask is most users connect via Gb ethernet or 10Gb. If you're not using 10Gb or you don't have some other specific bottleneck to overcome one connection with an expander will likely be fine. Of course a lot of things will factor into that such as the number of drives, the number of vdev's, number of users, type of pool layout......

I'm not trying to dodge your question but there's so many variables that can affect the answer that more detail is needed to provide a solid answer. Make sense?

Supermicro publishes manuals for their back planes. Search for the back plane model number found in the chassis specs
and you should be able to download a PDF document for the details about the SAS cables used and how they should be connected.

I understand.

I guess within the server itself, with ZFS RAIDZ2, and additionally doing things like (offline) backups from one ZFS pool to another, I'd like that to be as fast as possible, but I think it should be fine.
