This thread went the wrong way. Gaming parts are not "cheap". Some are, in fact, very expensive and very high quality. Like all things, not everything that is expensive is good, either. That is different from whether a particular computer is well-suited to use for FreeNAS.
The first thing that should be said in any of these threads is a thank you to new users. It takes some effort to set up your own system, and we appreciate that you have done so with FreeNAS.
@CaMaraton, thank you for doing that. For most of us, it's easy to forget that effort and skip to making recommendations about doing it even better.
Long-time forum residents and FreeNAS users, please remember your first success with FreeNAS. It might have been easy, it might have been hard, but try not to take that victory away from others. We are all here to support each other. After 2016, and with 2017 upon us, we each need all the support we can get.
