I thought WINS died in a fire more than a decade ago. Am I wrong?

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see that ever officially supported if its that "dead". As it is, newer features aren't fully implemented. So guess which one the developers(who are very short handed) will work on?

I'd put a ticket in at bugs.freenas.org. You never know when/if it will get implemented.

Maybe AD DC, but, i hope, in few years that archaic os named "windows" and all their ugly technologies will be finally deprecated and unclaimed.

Can't you do this through "auxiliary parameters" in the CIFS config?
If this feature does it implemented it should come in the form of a "FreeNAS Retro Mode" where documentation is only accessible by BBS and the server recreates all sorts of networking peculiarities / annoyances from when people used wins. :)
