VirtualBox 4.3.12 on a Win7 x64 PC
FreeNAS-9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)
BTSync Plugin 1.3.94

Hi All,

I've successfully setup FreeNAS and my Apple and Windows shares are working fine in a VirtualBox environment.

http://blog.bittorrent.com/2014/02/...-freenas-with-bittorrent-sync-using-a-plugin/

I've created another FreeNAS from scratch and followed the folder structures as instructed. I can access this FreeNAS just fine. The plugins status shows that btsync is running. According to FreeNAS (192.168.1.106), the btsync plugin is running on ip 192.168.1.250.

Unfortunately, I can't ping that IP and therefore, I can't get to its GUI web page. Do I need to create an additional interface under FreeNAS networking? Currently there is none there.

Any suggestions on what I can do to solve this?

I've redone 2 FreeNAS setups and both had the same problem.

Please help and thank you!

The ability to ping is not the same as the ability to access a service  IIRC, ping is denied by default in jails.

While in the shell of the jail, is the port number of btsync running if you type sockstat -4 ?

Below are the results. Nothing came up when searching for 8888 from the list.

edit: removed the long incorrect shell results.

My previous shell cmd was done directly from Freenas' Shell program. I don't think that's what you were asking. Did you want me to ssh into the ip address of btsync that freenas assigned it? If so, I can't ssh into it via putty. I get this error: Network error: Connection timed out.

Here's a pastebin of the previous post's results - http://pastebin.com/w81sgZty

you can't SSH into the jail unless you enabled SSH in the jail. I would ssh into your freenas host, 'jls' to list jails, then 'jexec # csh' to enter a commandline on the jail you installed btsync on.

I have tried clicking on the 'here' link as instructed but it simply times out and the web gui just doesn't load. This is done from a web browser from another VM, the virtualbox host machine and another machine without success.

I've found the problem BUT I'm not sure why. I created another freenas vm but this time used vmware workstation 10 instead of virtualbox. Sure enough, it works perfectly fine in vmware.

Any suggestions what setting in virtualbox that may be causing this?

BTW, thank you everyone for your help so far. Many thanks!

Hey I got the same exact problem!
Btsync is running but i can not reach it with the link! Used the same guide as you, but installed the USB image on a computer:p Wierd if that is related to the problem.
Update:
I went into my router where my FN and my computer is connected to and saw that the starting address is 192.168.1.100. Freenas assigned Btsync a IP of 192.168.1.2, so I changed it, still does not work. I looked in the router and see no assigned IP for btsync, only for freenas.

Just edit Jails => btsync_1=> Edit and untab VIMAGE tab! Done - and it just works in VMWare. On baremetal server I don't need to do this. Don't ask me why. (too lasy to read the manaual) Like to hear explanation for this feature usage.

Tried to uncheck the VIMAGE just for the try but it did not work. Am I supposed to log in with the btsync user to install btsync or install it as root user?
Tried to make a fresh install now, forgot to change the permissions of the btsync folder before I installed the plugin, hope thats ok :p
Made some changes in the assigned IP addresses for the jalis, Am I supposed to see a dedicated IP for the btsync jail in the router DHCP clients IP table? Like the one I see for the nas itself.

I do all the configuration as FreeNAS admin, what ever you have defined it.

I have greated ZFS Dataset for FILES and dataset for Jail. I change FILES dataset permissions to btsync (Owner and Group) and (set permission recursivily), this can be done after installed the plugin.

I have ESXi HOST where running FreeNAS-9.2.1.6-RELEASE-x64 and Btsync 1.3.106 btsync-1.3.106-amd64.

Only thing to ger access to web gui was to uncheck VIMAGE tab.

You have to have fixed IP on FreeNAS, and by default you have firts Jail running next ip-address above FreeNAS.
Does your Plug in start?

In the jails section it says btsync jail is running, could it be that the jail itself is running but not the btsync plugin inside the jail?
I assigned freenas the IP of 192.168.1.100 and set the jails config to start at 192.168.1.101. Then I changed the btsync ip to 192.168.1.101. Still cant connect. I tried alot of different stuff, rebooted the nas and router after I made changes to the IP's. Do I have to reboot after I uncheck options like VIMAGE too?
I tried to just stop and start the btsync jail, but that made the nas crash.
I tried two different routers btw.

Update:
I look for the plugin app by the commands "top" or "ps -A" in both root shell and btsync-jail shell. Only thing I process related to btsync is this, from btsync-jail shell.
/usr/pbi/btsync-amd64/bin/python2.7 /usr/pbi/btsync-amd64/control.py start 192.168.1.101 12346
I think the btsync app is not running, I wonder if something went wrong during the plugin install cause it took 5 minutes to get to 46% but it finished right after!

I got my vmware vm's btsync working after the ip change from the default 192.168.1.2 by clicking on the plugins icon on top (not side bar), turned btysnc off and on.

Ahhh, enabling btsync ath the "plugins" tab that made it work! Thank you!
Stupid that I can not enter the plugins tab by pressing the "plugins" at the left section while the btsync-jail are running as you can when the jail are stopped. I did not even look at the top icon! (even I actually have noticed it before)

By the way, in the guide the guy makes a /jails and a /files folder on the Hdd. I can only assign /jails/btsync_1/ and not to the /files folder even I set the right permissions.

What I did was just assign the user and group btsync to the /files folder. Then I click on the jails icon (top bar) , configuration (under jails) and specific the jails configuration to point to the /jails folder. My jails folder is /pluginsjail btw.
