Yeah, I find it weird how there are so many complaints about Ubuntu on bhyve (apart from the console resolution, I remember dealing with that one). There must be this one thing that breaks that I just don't use (I have it easy, it's just the one VM I want to keep in the NAS to deal with the docker registry).
I do wish SCALE just had native Docker but dare to dream.

The more I think about it, the more I kinda wanna go to a single box solution again. Given I will have a couple extra hosts in the near future (the old DC refresh is in full swing), I may give both a try to just to see what they look like.

I do wish that iLO-4 on the Gen 9s was not so dreadfully slow...

And that the console doesn't work at all, but that's surely a TrueNAS problem rather than a bhyve problem.

Actually, it's a bhyve problem. I ran into it myself this morning, when I tried to install a Linux Mint VM (which is derived from Ubuntu), and ran into this bug: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=275760. Installing in the VNC screen without a working mouse was a real pain, as was navigating through the first boot wizard.

This was discussed back in this thread: https://www.truenas.com/community/t...-in-ubuntu-desktop-vm-truenas-core-vm.114973/
