Boot replacement problem

I'm a pretty green FreeNAS user and have a problem I don't know how to fix.

I have my Freenas 11.1.u7 on a 32GB Scandisk flash drive. Recently it degraded, so I set out to replace the USB drive. I bought a new 128GB ScanDisk thumb drive.
I followed instructions to mirror the boot pool and add the drive. It shows the new USB as da1 and online. The old USB is da0 and shows degraded.

When I click replace da0. there is NO disk in the "member" drop-down to choose from. ( assuming I did this correctly)

When I pull the da0 (old USB) from my motherboard and try to boot from the new boot pool da1, it stops every time at "Syncing Disk". and has never gotten past that.
When I plug the old USB da0 back in, FreeNAS boots up fully and everything works as normal still listing as da0 degraded and da1 online

HELP?!?!?
Thanks

What does zpool status -v freenas-boot show? I'm curious if you actually correctly mirrored da0 to da1.

In the GUI, click the Shell menu on the left. Once it comes up, type that command into the prompt.

Ok, so you do have a mirror, but both thumb drives are showing checksum errors, which is why the newer drive won't boot. You'll need 3 more thumb drives.
  1. First, under System->General, use the "Save Config" button to save your config to one of the new thumb drives.
  2. Next, burn the installer to the second of your new thumb drives. You can find the ISO for 11.1-U7 at https://download.freenas.org/11/11.1-U7/x64/FreeNAS-11.1-U7.iso.
  3. Reinstall FreeNAS to the 3rd new thumb drive.
  4. Reboot off the new thumb drive. After the system has finished booting, navigate to System->General, and click "Upload Config" to restore your config from the first thumb drive.
  5. Reboot again, and your pool should import. Your system should be back in business.
