Hi all,

I've tried to follow the various posts on this, but I still don't fully understand IF I can do this and if so, what is the best way, so I'll try and explain what exactly I am trying to do and hopefully someone can explain in simple terms. Please bear in mind I am a Windows person at heart and have only a little experience in Linux.

I have a Windows share within Freenas called (for example) Films. I've created it using all the default share permissions and it works fine from other windows devices. Now I would like to make this share visible and WRITEABLE to some plugins. I've created them using the standard plugin installation and given their Jails access to the volume and folder that houses the Films share, but they don't have write access to it.

In the past I've worked around this by opening up the permissions but, as I'm building this from scratch again, I thought i'd have a go at doing it properly so, could someone please tell me HOW to do this properly please?

Many thanks

Paul

Were you able to figure out how to do this?

I THINK so, but not sure if it's the best way to do it.

I've found that most of the plugins seem to use a user called media, so I've made that user (and group) owner of the shared folders and files from the shell of each jail. That does seem to have given the plugins the rights to read and write while still allow my windows share permissions to be set as normal.

Only exception was I couldn't get my media player (physical device) to access the shares, but I've given up on that anyway as it was failing to support a lot of the latest encoding. I've installed Plex (under a Freenas jail) instead and that seems to be working well.

Thanks

Paul
