I've been a long time viewer of this forum, but now it's time to ask for help.

I have been setting up a new truenas system and want to use iscsi for a couple of program's on windows, one of wich is Lightroom classic, wich runs poorly ( with a 'hack' ) on samba.

the iscsi volume works great, but i want backups.

The solution seems to be to use `Replication tasks`, but the problem is that i only have the following ways to connect to the remote backup service that i'm using:
  • ftp
  • ftpS
  • Sftp
  • rsync
  • sshFS
These options cannot be used with `Replication tasks`.

I see allot of people saying 'wel... create a snapshot' ok, yes. But what then?

-----
The system:
12 core intel 8086K
32gb 3200 mhz
4 x 8tb drives, 1 vdevs z1
4 x 4tb drives, 1 vdevs z1
4 x 256gb SSD

Is there someone who uses volumes and have backups of them?

There is probably a way that i am missing.

The solution i got in the mean time is dumping it to a file and uploading that to the cloud.
Another external drive shall be used to place backups on and so, also a dump of a volume.

Still looking for a better way though, if if anyone has that, let me know :)

Just snapshot and replicate them to another system with ZFS.

My solution to Lightroom classic is using a local directory and have it replicated to TrueNAS via Syncthing. I did set up the latter manually in a jail following the YouTube video from Lawrence Systems. And I also have a cloud replication task, running against the directory that underpins Syncthing, to have off-site backups.
