Backing up plex data from jail (not plugin).

I'm wondering how I should go about migrating my Plex data from my current jail to one, mainly so it retains the 'watched' state and I won't have to pilfer through hundreds of shows to mark them all again. It should all be in the exact same place as far as the new jail is concerned, as it comes in through a mountpoint.

Unfortunately all the tutorials and instructions I can find are for linux or for the truenas plugin.
So how is this usually done? Can I just copy a folder across to the new jail and carry on?

I would use tar to compress the folder which will keep all the permissions and then untar the folder to the new location.

I've thought about something similar but i'm not sure if you can; Is it possible to just lift the entire jail out and import it again once the NAS is rebuilt?

This is why it's a good idea to set up jails to store their data outside the jail--as my script for Plex does. That way, you can destroy and recreate the jail with no loss of data. When you recreate the jail, suggest you look into setting it up this way.

But it looks like the only real issue is finding the Plex data in your jail. Since you didn't say how you installed Plex in your jail, it's hard to say for sure, but if you used the FreeBSD packages, you'll find it in /usr/local/plexdata.

Are you installing plex in a new jail? Is something wrong with your current installation? Just curious because it sounds like you want to copy the database over from an existing jail to a new jail, is that correct?
