Hey everybody. For my first post to these forums I have a question about Importing a partial array. Assuming you had a 3x2TB RaidZ array and one of the disks dies, or you pull the drive for some reason, is it possible to power down the system, pull the drives (discarding the dead drive) and put the 2 remaining drives into another machine and import this degraded array? Would you need to Scrub/Export the array first?

The answer to your theoretical question is yes they should be able to import it and yes it would be better to have exported it first. You can't import a faulted array but you can import a degraded one.

My suggestions in reality, given a particular situation, might be different depending.

Thanks for the answer! This isn't a scenario that has actually happened to me, just something I was wondering about while shuffling disks around the other day and one that I wasn't able to find much information about thru searches. More knowledge is good knowledge! Thanks again.
