I'm assuming this is possible, even if you are still running FreeNAS 11.1 based on FreeBSD 11.1?

Not that I need too, just wondering if anyone had?

Thanks!

You can't run a newer release version in a jail than what you are running on the base system. Iocage will give you an error if you try.

Just tried, and it doesn't appear to be possible.

Thanks! So when FreeNAS 11.2 is released based on 11.2 it should be possible to update the iocage jails?

I'm not sure--I did the test in 11.2-BETA1, but it's acting like it's running on FreeBSD 11.1.

It is. I don't know if rebasing FreeNAS on FreeBSD 11.2 is in the works for 11.2 official release. If it is from what testing I've done on previous versions you should have no issues upgrading the jails.

That seems like a pretty big change between -BETA and -RELEASE (though admittedly, with iX, those are somewhat arbitrary designations). I thought with 11.0 we were finally back to matching the underlying FreeBSD release?

Apparently common sense is illegal, just like trying to make things user friendly... *shrug*

And just for the record, I updated an 11.1-U6 system to 11.2-RC2. The iocage jails stayed at 11.1 and worked just fine. I tried upgrading one of the jails to 11.2 using the GUI jail management and that worked just fine as well.
