Any Reason To Use Larger Installation Drive

Would there be any future proofing benefit to using a larger installation drive for TrueNAS Scale? Would a 32GB drive be enough to deal with any future upgrades for the next 5 to 10 years or would it be better to go larger like 64GB? I guess another way to ask would be, has the installation drive requirement for the original FreeNAS/TrueNAS Core ever increased or has it been 8GB from day one which would likely mean there will be no change expected with TrueNAS Scale.

Thanks,
Harry

It sounds like you're talking about USB sticks in terms of capacity there.

The recommendation is to opt for other boot pool media (usually SSD, even if attached via USB).

That also implies (since you can't really buy anything in terms of SSD smaller than 64GB... probably even 128GB is hard to find), it's a moot point.

Separately to that 8GB is enough, but will give you little room to keep old boot images as you upgrade and may also burn out much faster if it's a USB stick. And if you do go for a USB stick, please connect it to a USB 2 port to delay it from burning out.
