Just set up FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-p1-x64 a week or so ago, and then
successfully ran the upgrade to p2... Hats off to the developers, seems
to be a really great system... 8.2 with PBI will really open things up a lot.
I know a bit about linux, but I'm no guru, and freebsd is completely new
to me as is the freenas environment so I hope I'm not suggesting something
that's already easy to do when you know how.
How about making a change to the installer to allow a larger flash drive?
It doesn't seem like it should be that hard to create the partition sizes
dynamically with the install script.
Flash drives are getting so cheap these days and I can hardly find one
smaller than 4GB without looking. Often 8/16GB is available for almost
the same price as 4GB. It would be great to be able to install a few
packages on the flash drive so as not to create unnecessary hard drive
spin ups.
Even just having a safe place to put custom shell scripts for maintenance
or cron jobs on the flash drive that would survive a GUI upgrade would be
very handy.
Thanks for considering.
