When i drag file from my AFP share on my Mac let's say i drag it to my Desktop original file stays in share instead of moving to desktop and disappearing in share

When i do this on my Synology NAS files are moved not copied

How can i achieve this effect on my FreeNAS AFP share? :)

Not really sure why Synology does that. If you think about it, a networked volume in Mac OS X is treated similarly to a externally mounted physical drive. The default behavior when you plug in a USB drive to your Mac OS X is that whenever you drag something from the USB drive to the desktop, it copies it and leave the original in place unless you hold down the correct modifier key.

This is expected. I have never used Synology but it sounds like Synology doesn't adhere to the default behavior of the OS>

Here states that "On the same drive move is normal behaviour, needs opt to copy. This is across drives, normal is to copy, add Cmd to Move". Maybe with synology it is mounted as a local folder instead of as another drive or in some way Finder sees it as a local folder.

Not that I know of. You would have to trick Mac OS X into thinking that a mounted network volume is a local internal drive (good luck with that).

I don't own a Synology so I can't help. Does Synology come with an app for MacOS or you did the connection to the Synology box? Can you post a screenshot of how it looks on your Finder? just for curiosity, maybe it isn't so magic :) and is possible to find a solution, because its Mac side job not a FN one.
