All,

I'm posting this item here because it can help other Freenas newbies with a headache which took me quite some time to figure out.

I have a mixed set of Mac and Windows machines at home - so, when I set up Freenas I logically enabled AFP and CIFS.

However, whenever I was trying to connect to the Freenas box through the advertised server name in the Shared section of Finder (in my case DataStore), I would get an error saying:

"There was a problem connecting to the server "DataStore". - and - "Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator.

When I tried connecting through "Connect to server" in the Finder menu, all worked perfectly. But of course, it was not what I wanted as I'm used to an easy click in "Shared" to have access to the shares.

I fixed this issue by disabling the "Zeroconf share discovery" in the CIFS configuration (Services - CIFS):

Restarted CIFS and AFP and problems solved...

Good luck!
