Hi Guys
Been doing a lot of reading on here the last week or so and tried to do a fair bit of background prep. Thanks for all the good reading material very informative and helpful.

I have a HP Proliant Gen7
FreeNAS-8.3.2-RELEASE-x64 (r12686+70c2cb8)
AMD Turion(tm) II Neo N40L Dual-Core Processor
8GB Ram (non ECC)
and it has 4*2TB drives set up as a RAIDZ1.

This was setup for me by a friend about 3 years ago as an iScsi that I just connected to from my and used as a c5TB storage drive mainly for backup and media server. It has worked fine so I have left well enough alone havent upgraded the Freenas version or touched the discs.

A couple of weeks ago I got my first Amber alert in the web interface. I checked out zpool status, rebooted and it cleared and then seemed ok. However, I had a power cut which brought back another amber error this time seemingly more worrying "The volume RAIDZVolume status is UNKNOWN. One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error."

I read up on the SMARTCTL tests and have run several - I had "Current Pending Sectors"=2 which made me think the HD was starting to fail. I started a one time scrub (scrubs are scheduled monthly). After the scrub completed I got a message stating that it had fixed xxxKB in several hours but the errors were gone and everything sems fine once again.

However, I now am nervous and have backed up important files to external HD.
The ada0 device is the one that reported error and I would be grafeul one of you experts could take a look at the output and say whether I have cause to be concerned - all the obvious parts look ok in the report but it is still refering to several errors

Below is the out for all devices
smartctl -t long /dev/adaX

Edit --- Output posted in post below as I messed up the copy paste originally

As an aside ada1-3 smartctl output look totally fine to my uneducated eye, though after reading CyberJocks Hacking WD Greens(and Reds) with WDIDLE3.exe it seems like I should apply that to the Greens in my zpool? LCL 142k vs 1k of the Deskstars.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

ada0 is toast. You have several read errors and it's failed smart tests. You also are not conducting periodic smart test on all your drives and you should be.

I guess thats what I was worried about but the "failures are outdated" and Scrub seemed to fixed it made me think maybe I was ok after all given that the long test is coming back 100% now and no read errors being reported now.

Thanks for the reply!
