I have a Dell T110 ii running freenas 11.2 with 4 1TB drives. I want to add another array, so thinking that adding a shelf with 8 out more bays would give me room for growth in the future. I've been looking at the NetApp shelves on eBay. Is this a good option? I know I would need to get some additional connectors and a controller. Any other good options (preferably cheapish). Also my 4 drives are running off the motherboard sata controller. After reading more after building my nas, I think this was a bad idea. Should I move these into the new chasis and get them off the built in controller?

What's the worry about the built in controller?
I was wondering about that. That was PCI sata controllers that should be avoided.
