Scratch this: just re-read Cyberjocks guide to understand ZIL/SLOGs etc. Not worth it for my use case...

I was thinking of adding a Intel 750 as a cache drive hopefully to improve performance. Has anyone compared/benched different sizes? Some great prices around this holiday....

Well, if you read my guide it says pretty clearly "if you don't think you need an l2arc you probably don't". it's also possible to add an l2arc and have your system get slower as a result. I added one to my system as a test and it only hurt performance for me.

Generally with SSD the larger the drive the faster it is. 1.2tb has faster times than 800 and 400gb.

They work GREAT for Slogs.

We have a san that runs 24 2TB drives in mirrored vdevs with 64gb ram and a 400gb 750 for the L2Arc.

This server houses all our terminal servers for our hosted desktop product. We have a 83.66 arc hit and 29.44 l2arc hit for ratios.

It could do with some extra ram, so i'm planning to upgrade to 128gb in the future, but for now it works very very well, so I don't want to touch anything!

You will want ti add vfs.zfs.vdev.trim_on_init = 0 to tunables so it boots quick, otherwise it willt ake forever to boot.

We don't modify any of the tunables they seem to work well!

Hope that helps.

I know you are wondering, and we have 26 terminal servers on this box and everything is very quick.
