I have a console that won't show me the options because there's a constant stream of errors on the screen. The webgui has failed as has ssh'ing to the system.
Any keyboard shortcuts to stop the errors to show menu options so I can issue a reboot?

Sounds like you've had some kind of hardware failure. But, with the very little detail you have provided, your only option is to pull the rug from under it and hope for the best.

Suggest you post your hardware specifications (motherboard, CPU, RAM size/type, etc), what version of FreeNAS you're running and if possible, try to capture the error message.

don't think it's a hardware failure, just transmission constantly throwing an error for downloads that it can't find data for. the typical error you get when moving files other than via transmission.

so there's no way to prevent the console from constantly displaying errors to get access to the cli ?

Alt-F2 (or F3, F4, etc) will pull up another virtual console screen; Alt-F1 will return you to the original. Once you're logged in, the "reboot" command will reboot.
