Not sure if this was resolved. I had to reinstall my Freenas server and noticed a problem. I created a user (see picture).

When I try to change files with the 'chown' command using that username, I get a invalid username error. However, if I use the User ID it works.

I have a sabnzbd script in the rc.d folder that I run. I used the user id and it spit out invalid user. I tried the username and again invalid user. The username does not show up in 'cat /etc/passwd'

Any suggestions?

Are you running chown on FreeNAS or in the jail or on a storage that you added into the jail? A jail has its own accounts which are separate from the FreeNAS system. There is some discussion of this inhttp://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Adding_Jails#Adding_Storage.

I am running in a jail. I read the url and I am not understanding how usernames are created inside the jail. How do you I create a username in a jail? I looked at the /etc/passwd in the jail and I don't see any username other than the default ones.

So I have to make sure it is the same as the user I added using the Freenas GUI correct?

username doesn't matter(but it's definitely convenient). But the UID is required.
