Upgraded to 9.10.2 multiple times, each time I lose access to the see shared mount points. Login is fine, I even see all my shares but each share I click on just shows an empty finder window with the folder icon on my Macs. Using SMB, no changes just updating. I can reboot after activating 9.10.1-U4 and all shares are accessible as normal.

What changed or what do I need to change to access my shares in 9.10.2 ??

Samba was updated to 4.4.5.

Which version did you update from?

Please paste your smb4.conf file and the version of your Macs.

STABLE train so the 9.10.1-U4 I referenced as what I went from, and back to again with 9.10.2 being the only update in between. Macs are all Sierra 10.12.2 and work fine on the U4 release and have for about 30 days without a hiccup. I can boot into 9.10.2 update and cant see a single file in any shares, book back into U4 and works fine.

Also noticed on both FreeNAS machines when running latest 9.10.2 web gui (using ssl) hangs constantly, have to hit refresh 2-3 times each time I login before seeing entire screen.

It's probably worthwhile to create a bug report at bugs.freenas.org so a dev can look at it. Include a debug file with the ticket (from System -> Advanced -> Save Debug) and post the ticket number here.

For what is worth over the past weeks I have found that MANY are having same issues with Sierra and SMB Shares on FreeNAS and other NAS systems. FreeNAS only affected when I upgrade from 9.10.1U4 to 9.10.2. Testing in 9.10.2 shows many errors when attempting to login for the SMB vfs modules. I removed all the vfs modules for a share and successfully connected. Removed VFS objects for all shares and now see them same as if its 9.10.1 Update 4. Will worry about adding back VFS Objects slowly later, if needed at all.

I have been seeing continued issues but they all appear to be with the vfs objects when using SMB on FreeNAS for Mac Clients running MacOS Sierra. I tried using netatalk, fruit, catia, etc as documentation advises and it appeared things were working via SMB ok. However I noticed newly uploaded files were going gray instead of turning black after copy is completed. After much testing the only way I was able to get uploads of new files to work as expected from a Mac to FreeNAS using 9.10.2-U1 was to remove the vfs objects suggested and listed above. At this time aio_fork and streams_xattr are the only 2 vfs objects currently in use and newly uploaded files no longer turn grey but black as expected. Not sure what the grey meant but while they took up disk space its as if they didn't exist beyond that, no execution, no download etc.. Since the only AFP I currently use is on the Timemachine share I assume no netatalk or fruit, catia, etc on SMB shares will be fine. Will continue to monitor but not finding much despite how everyone on OS Sierra is affected.
