I have an 8.3 machine that will no longer boot into freeNAS, so I am trying to just upgrade to 9.1.1
I downloaded the ISO & burned to CD and ran it and it keeps ending up at the menu which has:
1 Boot (enter)
2 (Esc)ape to loader prompt
3 Reboot

Options:
4 (A)CPI Support On
5 Safe (M)ode... off
6 (S)ingle User. off
7 (V)erbose...... off

then it autoboots and I get message:
Can't work out which disk we are booting from.
Guessed BIOS device 0xffffffff not found by probes, defaulting to disk0:

can't load 'kernel'

Could use a little help with this one as I have some data on the raid drives that are in ZFS and I really need to get it off here quickly and painlessly.

Thanks!

That sounds like hardware that might not be compatible with 9.x. Try reinstalling from an 8.3.2 CD.

Not sure, but 8.3.2. will not install either, and it was running on it before, from a flash drive.
I seem to get this message:
'CPU doesn't support long mode'

and then the Type ? for list of commands

Use the 32 bit version. I'd try the 8.3x version you started with.

will do, thanks. other question: could it be possible to move the 2 raid mirrored drives from this box to another existing NAS box and have it see the data?

If the other NAS box is running FreeNAS and you didn't use any hardware RAID controller, it should be able to auto-import your old pool.
