I've been having some permissions issues (incorrectly ordered) recently, and I took the advice of the 8.0.3 manual to set them at the client (I only have Windows clients) Having finally got that fixed, I though it was time to upgrade to 8.2 via the GUI, and it is taking ages (30 mins so far). The console shows messages that appear to be looping such as:

NFSv4_ACL_Entry.__set_access_permission: enter
NFSv4_ACL_Entry.__set_access_permission: leave
NFSv4_ACL_Entry.set_access_permission: permission = c
NFSv4_ACL_Entry.__set_access_permission: enter
NFSv4_ACL_Entry.set_access_permission: permission = p, Value = TRUE

Occasionally I see files from volumes shown on the console too. Wondering if this is nothing to do with the upgrade, but a GUI-based permission setting attempt still going on - maybe it's just going to wait until that's done.

last lines from the log are

Jul 30 11:38:54 nas freenas[1919]: Executing: /usr/sbin/service avahi-daemon forcestop

Jul 30 11:40:55 nas freenas[1919]: Executing: /bin/ln -s /mnt/Data_01/.freenas /var/tmp/firmware

should I just wait and see what it's going to do, or can I get away with a reboot whilst it's doing the permissions still?

TIA

What are the permissions for /mnt/Data_01/.freenas ? Do you have enough free space? Are you using .xz or .txz?

plenty free space (2TB), i was using the .xz, and the permissions are

dr-xr-xr-x+ 2 www www 2 Jul 30 13:29 .freenas/

top showed python taking up 75% of CPU time since the yesterday (when I started to file permissions fix from the GUI, what a bad move that was). the pid matched the pid reported on the console, so i just killed it, rebooted, scrubbed the zfs volume and tried the upgrade again. Worked a treat that time.

Thanks for replying.
