Why does it tell me that I only have 3.6TB available when I have 3X2TB HDDs in RAID-Z array. Shouldn't it have 4TB or even 3.9TB? Or is there actually more space but it says a lower number?

thanks

there are 2 ways of measuring kilo, mega, giga etc. each is either 1024 or 1000 of the last. drive manufactures use 1000, everyone else uses 1024. this gives the perceived discrepancy.

The exact same thing happens in Windows, but at least FreeNAS is kind enough to use the correct term TiB (tibibyte).

RED ALERT! RED ALERT! Someone used the word "kind" on this forum!

Oh.. wait.. he was referring to the OS, not the users or moderator. Crisis averted!
