Hi All,

Could anyone offer some advice on how to get SNMP or NUT working with my UPS?

Im just looking for confirmation really on which protocol works and how to configure it.

I've tried creating a slave UPS with the remote host IP and Remote port number and although it allows me to turn the service on how do I know if its working? This is a test server so currently isn't physically connect to the UPS so unplugging it won't work. I need to know that I can get this to work before the new equipment goes into that room.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Gonzalo.

I've read the doc already and it doesn't talk about monitoring UPS via network so not very helpful as that's my issue.

Why do you need to know hardware specs for network protocols?

Thanks

Because the Forum Rules say that o_O... anyways... at least we need to know what version of FreeNAS you are running and the model of the UPS.

Thanks. Hardware is a custom built Server and not sure of the UPS yet as I haven't physically seen it.

Thanks Sweety. I did notice that when I read the doc but all that tells me is that the UPS or NUT Server is running. It doesn't tell me if my server is in communication with it.

PS: Some people on this forum need a chill pill as Im sensing aggression.

Hi TinTin,

If you're asking which Network UPS Tools (NUT) driver to use when configuring the NUT master server, which is connected to the UPS, you can probably zero in on the right driver, using this page from the Network UPS Tools website. It just depends on the UPS make/model and the connection to the server.

If NUT is already running and configured as the master server, on the server that's connected to the UPS, and all you want to do is test to see if you have a good connection from the slave server back to the master, you should be able to at least test whether you have a good connection back to the master by issuing a;

upsc [ups_identifier]

from the slave. That should give you the status values from the master server's UPS, and if so, then you know you have a good connection between the two.

While it's a little different setting it up on FreeNAS, this blog post describes setting up a NUT master/slave configuration on OpenSUSE, and offers a better description of the configuration than I could find in the NUT documentation.

Good Luck,

Jason
