After some forum help (well jgreco), hardware has arrived and setup. Went with the following;
SuperMicro 1U server - 5017C-MTF
CPU - E3-1230 v2
32G Ram - KVR16E11/8 x 4
Disks - WD20EFRX x 4
I am booting off a sony 4G USB right to freenas, but here are the questions.
1. After reading the n00b's slideshow (great find), there were some good clarifications, and as I said I have (4) 2T disks and only need 4T storage, so it seems I want to go RAIDZ2. This is a 'file server', no database, but web-servers will be pulling in images from it as well as servers writing new images, so I don't thing I need to worry about ZILs and L2ARCs, right?
2. The current NFS is just exporting the root to which there are folders for specific things. If I have specific tasks or roles, is there any advantage/disadvantage to making multiple zpools or is performance better if I have just the one?
