Plugins are deprecated and poorly maintained. Create a standard 13.2 jail and install the application you wish to use with pkg install. For more complex things like Nextcloud, Plex, MineOS there are scripts provided by users of this forum.
Very new to TrueNAS, and Linux in general. Where are some good write-ups on Jails in general. As I'd like to convert the plug-ins that are now no good on my system, and have a few others I'd like to research if they are possible and how to create them (I'm thinking if I can convert some VMWare VMs into Jails, as well as to host a small MS SQL Server and other things for the house.)

Some resources:
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/jails/

https://buildmedia.readthedocs.org/media/pdf/iocage/latest/iocage.pdf

https://iocage.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

While I was posting, Patrick beat me to the count on two of the best of them...

Also, a resource by a frequent poster @victort here designed to help you do just what you wish to do - scripts to install many of the popular apps to jails: look at post #8 in this thread https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/plex-wont-update.115982/#post-804936

It was the scripts that led me to this thread initially. Good to know, as I will probably use the scripts to prop up my Plex Server again.

Great!

One other point oft-repeated, but worth doing so again - for ease of updating and maintenance, be sure to store a jailed app's data outside the jail.

Thanks, I'm now reading through all the documentation and looking at possibly migrating to SCALE also.

Yes, but Docker and supposedly better VM support. What I could do in jails, I would do in Apps. Trying to figure out which is best for me.

Maybe it's best I start to plot out my use case and then it can be discussed. I'm attempting to create my first home lab environment. I am using it to store my small Plex server as well as host some books/comics. That is the primary storage usage of the device, the remaining is to host several VMs that I need for work, as well as to setup Home Assistant and a MS SQL Server. After that, it's to play around with things as they are available to see what else I might use. Because of the VMs and SQL Server, I'm starting to think that SCALE might better serve my needs. No matter which direction I ultimately go, I need to learn about these things to get it properly setup. So if not jails, then Dockers and Kubernetes.

No jails in SCALE...

The server is already up and running in CORE. a N5105 Mini ITX board w 32GB single Channel RAM currently, eventually to upgrade to 64GB, likely once the SQL Server is up and running. A 256 OR 500 gb SSD Boot drive, 2 mirrored 2TB SSDs for storing and running VMs, though none running currently. and 4 8 TB HDDs in Raidz2 for media storage. It's small but it's mine, so far I've been impressed with how well it runs, though only thing on it currently are the actual files.
