If you were not already aware 11.1 is now end-of-life and no longer receiving security updates.

Therefore it is recommended that you either upgrade to 11.2-U8 (currently) or 11.3.

I hope this clears up any ambiguity.

If you run jails then de facto anything but 11.3 is EOL ...

Unfortunately some servers do not boot FreeNAS with BTX, so these machines must stay with FreeNAS 11.1u7 to benefit GRUB2.
It is a pity because could run FreeNAS 11.3 if the support for GRUB2 was not dropped.

No it is something else:
  • My server is a QNAP TS-EC1680U-RP server that can boot only with GRUB2.
  • When trying to use FreeNAS 11.2 or FreeNAS 11.3, I have tried UEFI and BIOS boot but BTX hangs when enumerating the disks.
Indeed, I have just discovered that BTX works on my QNAP TS-EC1680U-RP, if I unplug all the data disks.
Unpluging all the disks everytime I need to reboot is not very convenient so I will stay with FreeNAS 11.1u7 .
