Hi Folks,

what is the most comfortouble way to get Plex Server updated?

I'd like to lift from version 0.9.8.10.215 to 0.9.8.14.263 what is the best practice as I'm not sure to avoid a new jail?

I upgraded from V9.1 to 9.2 - It worked well.

In V9.2 there is a great new feature that allows you to upgrade plugins without unloading or deleting them.
I tried this with the Plexserver plugin, to get the latest version and to test if this will work.
My Plexserver plugin has been working since V9.1 was released.
The upgrade stuck at 50% for sometime.
It never completed.

I rebooted now it does not start.
No error is reported on the console.

Anything in /var/log/messages of the plugin's jail? How long was sometime?

I tried to find something useful . Nothing of any use.

How long has V9.1 been in final - 2 months?? I guess. I loaded it at that point. There were a few quirky things but generally it was fine.
Now it does not work.
No message that I can see, but they could be elsewhere....

Any tips out there about upgrading plugins? I tried upgrading plex media server and ownCloud and both get stuck at 50%...is there a command line tool to perform these upgrades?

thx

I my case the plex plugin upgrade took very long (more than an hour) to complete.
So they are probably not stuck; it takes a long time to upgrade.
Other plugins just took a couple of minutes to upgrade.

I waited over 2 hours and it was still at 50%. I canceled the upgrade and Plex started but this is a bug. I'm still on the old version.

Woke up this morning and now it's updated but the db file was set to r/o and seems to have been deleted. All my settings, watched/unwatched are gone.

As we await the resolution of upgrade bug, I went ahead and just installed a new pms I had in a new jail alongside to the one I had, with a different port. That does work, but the scanners didn't recreate all the artwork accurately. So is there a way to just copy the media info from the old jail to the new jail, and if so, where is the location I should look for it? Oh and btw, if somebody could still tell me how I can install and activate unauthorized plugins, I'd be grateful. Thanks much!

LOL.. "unauthorized"? We don't "authorize" or "unauthorize" plugins. It's on you if you want to use the "official" or "unofficial" but there is no system to deny plugins from running.

If you want to copy stuff from inside the jail, you'll need to know how Plex works. This forum is for FreeNAS. Go to the Plex forums for the answer to your question. :)

Hello, I am using Freenas 9.2 and when upgrading my PMS plugin to 9.8.14 first it refuses to start back the plugin then now I can connect to the plex server but it's like a clean install no more DB.

How can I be sure that all my database has been wiped out ?

In the log some errors are displayed:

Code:

For those looking for this - I did end up finding it: jails/plexmediaserver_1/usr/pbi/plexmediaserver-amd64/plexdata/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins
Just moving the unsupported (and I still don't understand why these can't be made more available - now that the wiki seems to have disappeared, even the list of those unsupported plugins is gone. ) bundles there and plex will automatically 'see' them.

Still haven't figured out how to get the artwork back and I'd still be grateful for some help.

Thank you, I will look into that path. By the way it seems the new upgrade Plug-ins function is generating issues for many users, and it would be great if some warnings were given prior to upgrade !!

Just a heads up, as mentioned in other threads, I upgraded from 9.1.1 to 9.2, and then upgraded my Plex from 9.8.6 to Plex 9.8.14. The Plex upgrade took about 30 minutes and proceeded to wipe my Plex db. It also wiped all of my Jail assigned storages.

It doesn't seem that the plugin update feature is fully baked yet, use with caution.

MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE UPGRADE!!!!

Mine killed my db and I had to use a backup from a few weeks before.

So as of right now is it possible to remove the old plugin and install the latest by manually backing up the database and restoring it? My Plex install is over 40GB so I would like to upgrade to the current version, but do not want to have to re-scan all of my media. If so what files do I need to backup in order to not lose any settings/content?

Looks like some people have had success doing that. 40GB is not a large collection for Plex, I think that rescanning wouldn't be so bad for you on a fresh install.

40GB is my Plex database size. Its about 9 TB of media. It would take about 4-5 days to re-scan the data.
