How do I grow a UFS mirror

Hi all,

Can anybody point me in the right direction as to how to increase the size of my existing 2TB UFS Mirror to my new 3TB disks? Can it be done simply inside FreeNAS, or does it involve backup and restore using an external system?

You can't from the GUI and I don't think gmirror(8) (the command behind the UFS mirror) supports this.

Might be a good time to consider backing up all the data, upgrading to the latest release version, and formatting the new disks with ZFS instead.

I'm not sure my 1GB RAM will support ZFS

For now... Documentation advises against running with such little ram.. I'm assuming you have non-ecc ram.. Max out that system if possible..

If you don't have at least 8GB of RAM with ZFS or 2GB of RAM with UFS, you should consider getting more powerful hardware before using FreeNAS® to store your data. Otherwise, data loss may result.

You might run into problems upgrading via GUI when running on 1 GB, but without jails/plugins and UFS it should run fine.

You are taking a risk by having <2GB of RAM even with UFS. I'd make it a priority to get more RAM in the system.

Do take note that UFS and x86 versions of FreeNAS are going away after 9.2.x, so you are already on short time with FreeNAS updates. I think dlavigne provided the best advice when she said you should consider moving to ZFS. That does mean 8GB of RAM minimum, but otherwise you'll find that you are on an island alone with no support otherwise.
