We have 2 Dell Precision 5820 Towers we are not really using. I am going to use one of them for a new NAS build. Which one would be better?
Machine 1:
Nvidia RTX A4000, 16GB
32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4 UDIMM non-E CC memory
Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10920X 3. 5GHz,(4.8GHz Turbo, 12C, 19.25 MB Cache, HT, (165W) DDR4-2933 Non-ECC)
Machine 2:
NVIDIA Quadro P4000, 8GB
32GB 4x8GB DDR4 2666MHz RDIMM ECC Memory
Intel Xeon W-2133 (3.6GHz, 3.9 GHz Turbo, 6C, 8.25MB Cache, H T, (140W)) DDR4-2666)

I can swap parts to make the best system. What do you reccomend?

Why do you want to go for TrueNAS (as opposed to e.g. unRAID or Synology) and what do you want to do with it?

Synology - In their newest software they only support their own drives. I don't want to spend $649.99 on an 18TB drive when I can buy WD drive for $337.32. Also, we have a bunch of computers lying around. I would rather use them then spend $1000-1700 on new hardware.
unRAID - I considered it but my understanding is TrueNAS has better performance. Also, while I am a hobbyist if I am going to take the time to mess around with something I'd rather it be enterprise (or at least small business) so I can possibly one day apply it to something that can be monetized. Also, unRAID is very new to supporting ZFS. My understanding is ZFS is the best file system for data integrity.

I am running a server with a ton of media on it. I was backing up to Google Drive but then they killed unlimited data for business. I am getting close to using too much of my businesses storage. My business also creates a ton of video and photos so it needs the space.

Sounds reasonable . Please spend considerable time to familiarize yourself with ZFS and what it does not do. Because there are limitations relative to what many people expect. A good starting point is the list of recommended readings in my signature.

So which hardware do you recommend?

Pardon my slowness, where do I find your signature?
