Storage on multi-disk VDEVS

I have question regarding multi-disk VDEVs. I think I know the answer, but wanted to make sure. I just built a TrueNAS box with 32 SSDs, and I chose a layout of 4 8-deep VDEVs in a RAID-Z2. So now I have 4 virtual devices with 8 physical drives...When I go to create the pool, how are those virtual "disks" arranged? Since the physical disks are RAID-Z2, does TrueNAS (or ZFS) create a 4-drive RAID-Z2 (or RAID-Z)? I ask because it really doesn't specify in the TrueNAS GUI, nor does it in zpool status. It shows the individual VDEVs, but not the pool itself.

I'm pretty sure it does, but you aren't understanding what it's telling you--posting the output of zpool status (in code tags) would make it clear. But from your description, it sounds like your pool consists of eight-drive RAIDZ2 vdevs x4--four vdevs, each consisting of 8 drives in RAIDZ2, striped together.

But from your description, it sounds like your pool consists of eight-drive RAIDZ2 vdevs x4--four vdevs, each consisting of 8 drives in RAIDZ2, striped together.

Correct--that's the only way ZFS deals with multiple vdevs in a pool.
