Behavior when replacing disk with another brand?

Hello,

how will TrueNAS behave when trying to replace a harddrive with a harddrive from another brand but "same" size?
In case different manufacturers create harddrives with minimally different sizes (even for "same" drive sizes, e.g. both drives with 8 TB), how will this affect the replacement? Will TrueNAS reserve some space at the end of the drives at creation of the vdevs/pools to tolerate such minimal differences or will this cause troubles?

Thanks,

Thomas

If the replacement drive is truly the same size as the old one, there's no problem. And I recall reading, even if I can't give a link right now, that drive capacities have been pretty well standardized for over a decade now, so that should be the situation. But if the replacement is a little smaller, that's part of what the swap partition is for. Set its size to zero, and that will give you (typically) an extra 2 GB.
