Old pc for freenas

Sorry for I ask. I have some old pc and I wont to try freenas . Will you please tell me wich old version will work fine. Pc configuration intel celeron 3ghz , ddr2 667mhz 4gb

A wont to use freenas to share files and download torrents and watch them later on pc, android, tv

The latest version should be fine to use with it just to get the feel of FreeNAS will non-critical data. If you read the general guides to FreeNAS you will see it "requires" ECC memory though. The reason for this is because when using ZFS if something happens in which there is even a slight hiccup with some even very small portion of the data (ex. from a cosmic ray flipping a few or even one bit) in RAM in theory it could end up corrupting the rest of the data.

So basically - current version, non critical data & after familiarizing yourself with the UI and features upgrade to some server grade gear (used or new) for a proper system long term.

I'm not sure that is entirely true. There has been much discussion around these threads about that but much discussion about that being inaccurate as well. I am not an expert on the topic, but I think it is worth mentioning so folks reading this can do the research on their own.

One issue here is that FreeNAS requires a minumum of 8GB of memory. You may experience terrible performance or unreliability as a result.
