Hello, I want to hear if you guys have any thoughts about using an old HP XW8600 workstation with freenas?
i got this and a xw6600 for about 30 usd
specs of the machine are as follows:
CPUs - Dual Intel Xenon E5410 @2.33GHz
RAM - 8 modules of "SAMSUNG M395T5750EZ4-CE65 2GB 667MHZ PC2-5300 CL5 ECC FULLY BUFFERED 2RX4 DDR2 SDRAM" for a total of 16gb. i will probably upgrade this to 32gb or 64gb at a later time.
MB - HP OEM with 6 SATA and 8 SAS ports and one ide port
GPU - ATI Firepro something.
PSU - Delta dps-800LB. 80plus, 800W
i will put in 2 8tb drives and 4 3tb drives and 2 other drives for plugins. i will move them from an existing freenas build that has been up and running for a few years now.
