Is ZFS Safe?

I don't think it's any less reliable than any other filesystem. Shit happens, and when it does, it doesn't care what filesystem you're using.

There are a lot of resources available to FreeNAS users. The manual, existing forum messages, Cyberjock's guide (see sticky), FreeNAS 8 Forums FAQ, and Google searches.
The answer to this question was (like many posted every day) was right here. Instead of the OP or you searching for the answer, I had to do it and point it out to you.
If you are going to use FreeNAS, do your homework first. If you don't understand it, tell us what you found, did, etc. At least that shows that someone tried.

ZFS is as "safe" as the admin is knowledgable with properly administering the FreeNAS server. Don't do proper administration and you may find that your zpool isn't as "safe" as you'd liked/hoped/expected. So ZFS "safeness" is directly proportional to the admin's "knowledge". High knowledge.. very safe.
If you don't know what you are doing and not willing to do the proper research to understand before you build your zpool and you will be sorry later. It might not be apparent what you did wrong today or tomorrow. But one day you'll see what you screwed up and you'll pay for it dearly(which is why backups are always recommended). Plenty of people in the forums don't do their proper research and one day wonder why their data is gone and wrongly blame ZFS.
Generally I just ignore people that jump to blaming ZFS as I trust it to prevent corruption more than any hardware RAID(or file system) I've ever owned. Generally, if you're blaming ZFS you really have no clue why ZFS is superior nor how to properly administer the server.
